Preschool Education

All the major political parties are releasing policies on early childhood education in the lead up to the elections (at State and Federal level). The federal ALP has just released its policy. Tell us what you think.

Isn't that great? At long last the politicians are realising that schooling - even from a tender age - is advantageous for our nation's future. My concern is firstly, because they are politicians, are they genuine or are they just trying to gather votes for the coming election? Next, I wonder if there will be an injection of funds from The Federal Treasury or will it come from the already heavily burdened existing funds? Didn't the Minister on the "Insight" SBS programme, last year, indicate that there would be no more funds to implement her A to E and Teacher Reward System? Yes, but that is another political party. My concern is that the money has to come from somewhere and I would not like to see it taken from the existing mainstream funding to prop up some election promise. Rather, I would like to see the costs (some $145M)added to the present funding arrangements so that all the children get a fair proportion of the Federal Funds.

Very goog point Barry. I think we would all agree that the money to fund early childhood should be "new" money and not taken from the existing, limited, bucket of school education funds.
